The inside tubes are interchangeable. This allows you to change from one inside tube to another if you choose. For example, you could change from a 3 inch drop to a 4 inch drop or a 3 inch to a 4 inch or a standard up and down post to a multiposition post just by changing the inside tube. You would need to purchase the other inside tube. The change takes about 30 seconds to perform and is very easy.

The GravityDropper is especially important for a XC rider or racer. A typical XC bike has a longer stem which positions the handlebar further forward than a free-ride or downhill bike. This makes lowering your center of gravity and being able to get your weight down and back even more important for better handling in technical situations (speed and safety). XC riders also ride with their seats typically higher than a free-rider or downhiller. This is done because a higher seat position allows for nice round pedal strokes needed for sustained, power to the pedals. Many XC riders still ride with their seat too low. They do this so they can have a balance between climbing and descending and thus compromise both the climb and descent. A XC rider using GravityDropper may be able to raise their seat to their optimal height for “climbing” because the GravityDropper allows them to lower for descending. Also, many XC riders refuse to lower their seat because they don’t want to lose their current seat height position. The GravityDropper offers them the ability to bring it back to the exact same “up” seat height position

Thumbswitch doesn’t return all the way (Turbo)

Check to see if your cable has pulled out of the set screws (item #29) in the switch arm. Remove the switch lid on the handlebar and look at the switch arm. The arm should rest against the switch body. If you have extra cable, loosen the set screws and use a pair of plyers to remove the excess slack. Be careful not to pull too much as this would cause the post not be able to fully lock into a position.

If you dont have excess slack, check to see if you have too tight of a bend or angle in your cable housing. Staighten as much as possible.

It also could be that your cable is sticky from mud or dust causing the switch not to full return. If the above suggestions didn’t fix your problem, we recommend purchasing a REBUILD and sending the post back to Gravitydropper or installing a new cable and housing. Instructions can be found in the maintenance section.

Because of the mechanical nature of GraivityDropper, your riding positions are always in the same place. We believe this is better than having an infinite number of positions which make it hard to know where you post is exactly. You might get used to riding a section in the down 1 inch position. You want it to be the same every time. This is also extremely important with regards to the UP position. If you don’t sit all the way up with our post, it lets you know by sliding back down. If it didn’t, you wouldn’t know that you weren’t all the way up. The last thing you want to do is think you are all the way up and you aren’t. This can’t happen with the GravityDropper.

Warning!

*Pushing switch when post is in the down position will cause it to rise quickly to the up position. Do not operate until the seat is installed on the Seatpost and the post installed on the bike. Always make sure nothing is in the way of post as it goes from the DOWN to the UP position. This can cause serious injury.

*Seat has strong compression spring. Do not remove bottom cap nut (item 68)

*The Turbo Gravitydropper should be installed by qualified bike mechanic

* Make sure to use the rubber boot that’s installed on your post. It is essential to keep mud and water out. When storing for extended periods, keep seat post in the up position

Mounting instructions

Remove existing post from the bike. Clean and check for deformations and burrs.

If your bike does not use a 27.2 size seat post. Insert proper shim.

Insert Turbo seat post into bike. The post can be positioned with unit facing forward or backward. Running backwards may require a longer cable.

Attach seat on the seat post

Now position the seat height to desired height for your upper position and tighten seat post clamp. Make sure you inserted the post at least to the limit line on the seat post or the minimum required by your bicycle manufacturer (whichever is greater) so as not to damage post or bicycle frame.

Install thumb switch on handlebar. (Make sure you ran the cable properly) If you cable is too long, see Changing Cable instructions skipping item 6 and 8

Install plastic cable holders (included) to top tube and fasten the small zip ties.

Operating your seat post

Warning: Do not attempt aggressive riding until you are totally familiar with the operation and function of the seat post. Note: You will become familiar with this simple procedure quickly with practice.

To lower seat post- Push (and hold) thumb switch, un-weight seat and then sit down, (In that order) As the seat is moving down, release thumb switch; Seat is now locked in down position.

To Raise seat post- If sitting on seat, push (and hold) thumb switch, and standup. As seat rises, release thumb switch. If standing, (first make sure you are clear of seat as it will rise rapidly into up position), push thumb switch. The switch will start easy, then feel harder just before post releases rapidly into up position. Release switch lever and the seat will now be locked in up position.

Changing Cable (Note: This should be performed by qualified mechanic) See schematic

Remove thumb switch lid (item #64)

Loosen the two 0/40 cable set screws in switch arm. Use a .050 hex wrench. (item #29)

Remove cable from the thumb-switch

Remove the two cap screws on seat post body (Item #334)

Gently pull pin mechanism from post. (Caution, do not do this if your inside tube has been removed (#22) The system has a spring and is under pressure.

Unscrew Knurling cap (item #408) and remove cable from pin. (you might need to hold with pliers or a vice as this is locktighted on.

Cut cable housing to desired length. Do not cut the cable yet.

Place Outside pin spring (#358) over pin (#288), then Spacer plate (item #412) Put the Turbo spring (#406) and then the knurling cap (#408) over the cable(#128) and insert into the pin (#288) Tighten Knurling cap (item #408) onto pin. Fit Turbo unit (item #332) over cable & replace Cap screws. (item #334) Refer to schematic as needed.

Place cable housing over the cable and cut cable leaving 18 mm (.7 inches) of cable sticking out of housing.

Thread cable end through switch (#24), tighten set screws (#29) and press switch arm (#82) to ensure that the cable does not slip or have any slack. Slightly bend excess end of cable up and away from edge of switch wall to prevent from hitting switch body housing)

Replace thumb switch lid (item #64)

Cleaning and Maintenance

Cleaning and lubrication is recommended if post getting sticky up and down.

Thoroughly clean and re-lube. Use a light lithium grease.

Press and hold thumb switch, insert inner tube and tighten cap (we suggest placing a small amount of lock tight on top cap before adjusting to proper tension). The top cap is key to proper post function. If top cap (item#52) is too tight, the pin will not release. If top cap (item#52) is too loose, there will be play in the top of post and the post may not engage in the down position.

Complete Overhaul

Remove seat post from bicycle

To change cable/housing refer to directions above.

Clean dirt and re-assemble. Refer to schematic as needed. (Shim kits & replacement parts are available from manufacturer.)

If pin (item #88) is removed and cleaned, use SMALL amount of lube before replacing.

Re-assemble and install on bike

If it is not engaging, then lift up the bottom portion of the protective boot and loosen item (#53) ½ turn. Now try the switch and see if it will engage. REPEAT until you feel a small amount of play up and down in the post. (push down on the saddle, and up pull up to feel for play) Once you feel play up and down, Loosening the cap doesn’t do any good.

Call customer service

Proper positioning of the Top Cap #52 is important for the seatpost to function correctly. It must not be too tight or too loose.

Put the seatpost in the up postition

Push straight down on the seat. If the top cap is too loose, you will have some play up/down and hear a clicking noise.

If there is play, slowly tighten the Top Cap until there is just a small small amount of play. If you tighte this too much, the post will not engage properly in the UP position, or could get stuck in the UP position, or fall from the UP position while riding

Put th rubber boot back down over the top cap and test the post to see if it is functioning properly.

First check to see if you have any up and down play in your post. To check, Push down on the seat. If you do not feel any play or hear a clicking noise, go to step 2. If you do have play and do hear a clicking noise, go to step 3.

Lift up the bottom portion of the rubber boot and loosen item (#52) ½ turn. Check for play up and down again and REPEAT until you feel just a small amount of play up and down in the post. If this did not resolve the problem, go to step 3.

Check to make sure the switch is working properly. Some cable stretch might have developed not allowing the pin to disengage. Remove the switch lid (item #64) on the handlebar, If you have cable slack in the switch body, loosen the set screws (item #29) with a .050 american allen wrench and pull the excess slack with pliers. Be careful not to pull too much as this will cause the post not to lock into any position.

Thoroughly clean and re-lube. Use a light lithium grease.

Press and hold thumb switch, insert inner tube and tighten cap (we suggest placing a small amount of silicone or lock tight on top cap before adjusting to proper tension). The top cap is key to proper post function. If top cap (item#52) is too tight, the pin will not release. If top cap (item#52) is too loose, there will be play in the top of post and the post may not engage in the down position.

(this procedure can only be done if you have a 3″drop post 325mm or longer or a 4″ drop 375mm or longer) You could increase the tension of the spring pressure by turning clockwise bottom cap nut (On bottom of seatpost, Item #68) Note: It is possible that if you increase too much, the post wont be able to engage in the down position. Just check to see that it still engages in the down position after you turn clockwise. If it won’t engage in the down position, just back out the bottom cap nut until it will engage.

Installing new shims (item #42)

Read instructions all the way thru, you must perform all steps for the seatpost to function correctly. Note: It is recommended that you watch the video.

Remove old shims using pliers. Grab bottom and leverage up

If you are installing a multi-position post, remove portion of the top.

Use a hammer to hammer the new shims into place. Make sure positioned right and start at he bottom. (The groove should be facing up).

Use a hole punch to fit the top part of the shim so flush and the bushing slides over easy.

Use a razorblade or exacta-knife to take off any excess plastic on the 2 sides.

Put a small amount of grease (lithium works fine) on the shim and insert into the seapost. ** note for Gravitydropper, you will have to press the switch (and hold).

Slide the seatpost up and down. It might still be tight. If so, be careful not to do too much but go to step 5 again. (Keep taking a little bit until the post slides pretty freely) * not too much or you will get some side to side wiggle in the seatpost when you are finished.

**When the post slides up and down smoothly, Partially put on the black cap. Maybe about 5 or 6 full turns. Then while holding the switch (KEEP holding the switch) let the post slam into the up position about 4 or 5 times. This is sliding the shims you installed into the full bottom position and a very important step!!

Now, how much and where the top cap is tightened controls where the hole is in the inside tube and if it matches the pin. Slowly tighten the cap until slightly tight.

TEST the switch and see if it unlocks the pin and the seatpost pushes down. If it does not activate the switch, loosen the cap a little bit until the switch works. If It does, keep tightening the cap until tight, each time you test to make sure the switch is still working. If it stops working, back off the cap a little bit. A person might put a little lock tight on the threads to hold in place if cap ever comes loose.
